My NaNoWriMo Round 4: Week 4

10 days left of National Novel Writing Month! Can we already be only a handful of days away from Thanksgiving?

What we’re not days away from: Cold weather. And, sadly, snow. Yes it melted, but it’s doomed to come back. 🌬 ❄️ 🌨

Thank goodness I have my writing to distract me from all the chilly chaos outside my window! Here’s what I’ve been up to this week.

My Progress

I set my NaNoWriMo writing goal this week to average at least 1,667 words daily in order to reach a total of 33,340 by EOD November 20.

Where am I at now?

I am shocked to say that I’m still keeping my writing pace of at least 1,667 words a day AND surpass my target word count goal. Yes, it was only by a handful of words. No, it wasn’t too big of a struggle to hit it.

My Obstacles

This was a busy week for me! My new marketing gig led me to check out new places around the state, from exploring the behind-the-scenes jobs that keep the hospitality industry rolling smoothly to meeting the friendly faces behind the customer service calls at my company.

But all this traveling meant more time on the road and less time behind my personal laptop before and after my 9-to-5 workday. And, because I’m seriously crazy, I also needed to fit in an hour for my fitness routine.

What did I do?

You guessed it. That meant setting the clock earlier and earlier each day so that I could run in the morning and write at night. And many cups of strong tea.

The things we do for our ambitious goals…

My Successes

I attended two write-ins! I went to one on Thursday and one on Sunday. It’s always easier to go on the weekend, but I really wanted to push myself and go during the week so that I didn’t fall behind.

The Thursday write-in was truly in NaNoWriMo fashion. While the turnout was low, the word count was high. We participated in word sprints and talked about our writing projects. I even learned about a local writing group that meets monthly throughout the year.

Guess what I’ll be doing in December 📝

Sunday’s write-in was more of the let’s-get-serious-and-write crowd who needed to catch up. We even celebrated a participant who, at the event, validated her novel!

My Goals

I’m sounding like a broken record by now, but my goal is to stick to my 1,667 words a day writing pace and to reach at least 45,009 words by Sunday night.
