My NaNoWriMo Round 3: Week 2

It's autumn at James A. Garfield's house in Mentor, Ohio

What a busy week! Not only did I launch my company’s first ebook, but I also made some serious headway on this week’s NaNoWriMo goals.

I also made some time for a day trip to Mentor, home of the James A. Garfield National Historic Site. As many of my readers know, I am an avid National Park cancellation stamp collector and getting away for a day helps my creative process.

But back to National Novel Writing Month. Here’s the progress I made so far:

My Progress

Since last week, I submitted my play to three opportunities across the country. Some were play development workshops while others were play conference performance opportunities.

I also drafted a backstory of one character for my new writing project.

My Obstacles

It took my a few days to draft the character backstory because I really wanted to answer pertinent questions of the character’s story during the novel so that his storyline and personality was consistent and defined. This meant doing a lot of head-scratching before jotting my notes down on paper.

My Successes

In this rare instance, deadlines were my best friend. I was motivated to submit my play out this week due to the November 1 deadline as well as meet my backstory writing goal so that I could take my day trip out to Ohio.

My Goals

Next week, my goals are to submit to two play opportunities as well as draft two character backstories.
